Or will CA’s Looney Left proclaim Electricity a Basic Human Right?

Electricity Generation Costs $$$
Grid Distribution Upgrades Costs $$$
Charging Infrastructure Costs $$$
EV Charging Costs TIME = $$$

CA already pays the highest electricity rates in the nation… Utilities announced a 21% increase in electricity rates through 2021 to meet state renewable mandates.

Gasoline Fuel: CA Highest among all states
Diesel Fuel: CA Highest among all states
Residential Electricity Price: CA Highest among contiguous states
Commercial Electricity Price: CA Highest among contiguous states
Industrial Electricity Price: CA 2nd Highest among contiguous states

CA’s rising energy costs again broke new barriers as the average residential electricity rate surged to the highest among the contiguous states.
CA’s residential price currently is on course to surpass high-cost Alaska as well.

CA Residential Electric Price for the 12 months ended August 2021 was 22.14 cents/kWh,
71.6% higher than the US average of 12.90 cents/kWh for all states other than CA.

The average annual Residential electricity bill in California was $1,523, or 53.2% higher ($529) than the comparable bill in 2010
(the year the AB 32 implementation began with the Early Action items).
In this same period, the average US (less CA) electricity bill for all other states grew only 5.9% ($81).

CA Commercial Price for the 12 months ended August 2021 was 18.73 cents/kWh, 80.1% higher than the US average of 10.40 cents/kWh for all states other than CA.

CA Industrial Price for the 12 months ended August 2021 was 14.92 cents/kWh, 125.7% higher than the US average of 6.61 cents/kWh for all states other than CA.

California Natural Gas Prices – Average prices ($ per thousand cubic feet) for the 12 months ended August 2021 was $15.15 while for the rest of the US was 50% lower at $10.10.
CA premium over Rest of US, August 2021 50.0%
CA premium over Rest of US, August 2020 32.6%

What business will choose CA to open a manufacturing facility or other business that employs middle-class workers on a large scale? High energy costs on top of over regulation is killing CA.

We’ll have everything except generation to provide electrical power to the new outlets.

More plentiful charging might, and is a necessity before people might switch in amounts that begin to make EVs closer to mainstream. It’s just a niche now. That charging also must be high-power, not overnight, for vehicles on the road or parked for short periods, and one cannot expect to charge at home or at work, especially with new apartments featuring much less than enough parking, or no parking. And what about on the streets? Lamppost chargers are not a serious proposal. City and county lots are being sought for conversion to housing now, too bad for higher-power AC, which would be helpful and cheaper than the expensive high-power DC, but nobody wants a bigger AC charger in their vehicle, as a rule.. That’s in addition to EVs having to have much more stored energy while being much cheaper to buy. More charging is good, the wrong charging bad for EVs.

They are not. Just calculate the environmental impact to building the cars and the electricity that needs to be produced to put into the cars. There is a loss of power between the transmission of energy and the delivery location. There is also a loss of energy between the charging station and the car. When the cars have reached the end of their economic life, there will be a substantial environmental impact to disposing of the batteries.

Much of the energy that goes into the electric vehicle grid comes from coal and natural gas. One more thing that is obvious, but often overlooked in the Pollyannaish discussions about EVs, is that the electric grid will require massive upgrades to even come close to handling the projected (Leftist wet dream) use of EVs by the general public.
