Which race do I need to claim in order for you to like me?

I’ve learned from people like Liz Warren, Rachel Dolezal, and Ward Churchill that it’s kind of my choice.

What if the race I claim for myself is one of your races? Will you have enough hate to hate both of us?

No, we need more houses and better paying jobs. CA has 40M people, which 95% are dwelling in urban areas. It also has the highest level of inequality in the country on top of 129,000 homeless. Your old way does not scale to these proportions. Anything within and adjacent to urban areas need to be developed because the population will only grow. Hug your trees down in Salinas or out in Kern County, but stop this NIMBY nonsense on land that can be developed or extracted for materials that can be used to build houses, windmills, whatever. Why extract somewhere else and destroy both? You want to end these fires, turn those forests into houses.

There is no environmentalist future the Bay Area that will double in population in the next two decades. It is done. And your ancestors are only history, they can not feed, house, or treat any of the people that are here now. Grow up, its over.

But the language appeared to favor Zwierlein by citing the title of her BIA petition, raising questions about the lawmaker’s intentions.” in the article, I think that this is not accurate and misleading based on Mike Honda’s letter to Carl. J. Artman, Assistant Secretary for Indian Affairs, United States Department of Interior dated October 22, 2007 which was provided to me by Chairman Val Lopes. Mike Honda wrote in the letter, ” I am writing to express my concern about information uncovered by the Department of the Interior , Office of Inspector General ( ” OIG Report “) investigation into the conduct of Irene Zwierlein, the former Chairperson of the Amah Band of Ohlone/Coastanoan Indians ( Band ). It is my understanding that the OIG Report concludes that Ms. Zwierlein fabricated documents submitted to the Department of Interior , resulting in the Department’s recognition of her as the leader and spokesperson of the Band. This situation has caused considerable confusion in the community and has hampered the Band’s ability to advocate fairly and successfully on it sown behalf. “

For thousands of years carbon dating shows that Indigenous people, Amah Mutsun people, practiced fire management in California. The carbon dating went back 15,000 years proving that systematic controlled burns were taking place. Last time I checked, California has uncontrollable fires, like the Kinkaid and Getty fires, that destroy communities of homes and put a lot of people out of work. We have climate refugees in California. Californians need water more than we need an extractive quarry mine that will destroy the Pajaro watershed. We need to return to Indigenous fire management. We need a Green New Deal that respects Indigenous rights and returns some balance to our ecology.

The Amah Mutsun’s most sacred site is threatened by extraction mining and greed that will benefit a few people for a little while. It’s happening at a moment when our planet is in the beginning stages of the 6th mass extinction. Planet earth is losing 200 plant and animal species every day. They need habitat, not a quarry mine. If we want to collectively get through this moment of climate crises we must respect Indigenous rights. The Pajaro watershed is on Juristac land. Sturgeon are there. The land contains a wildlife linkage corridor that connects the Gabilon, Diablos and Santa Cruz Mountains so Puma, and other animals can migrate and breed. Animals, like the red tailed frog, will go extinct if this extractive mining is allowed. When do we protect the animals? When do we stand with our Indigenous brothers and sisters and say “Enough!”? The only thing that will stop this extractive quarry mine is public opinion. So please, if human rights, Indigenous rights, our local watershed and endangered animals are important to you, please take a stand with the Amah Mutsun and help us save Juristac.

I learned about this issue for the first time at that time. I juts finished reading a paper ” Federal Recognition of Native American Tribes : The Case of California’s Amah Mutsun ” by E. Ricard Hart. http://www.protectjuristac.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/The_Case_of_Californias_Amah_Mutsun-16.1.pdf Historical records with regards to Mutsun matter.

A nice plaque commemorating the Air Force’s 20 years on the mountain would be fine. A huge, towering toxic concrete box isn’t.

That is false, Craig. Rancho Juristac was the original name of the land grant that became Sargent Ranch. Huris-tak is a well established place name documented by JP Harrington and others.
